Le Chéile, a joint venture partnership between public lighting specialists Enerveo Ireland, Al Read Electrical, and Electric Skyline Ltd have been awarded a contract worth €53 million by Cork County Council for the retrofit of public street lighting across the South West Region of Ireland.
The Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project (PLEEP), which is managed by the Road Management Office (RMO) in conjunction with various Local Authorities across Ireland, will see a number of regions countrywide retrofitted in stages with energy-efficient LED street lights over the next 3 years as part of the government’s drive to assist Local Authorities in reaching their energy efficiency targets by 2030.
Le Chéile have been awarded the contract to retrofit the first of these nationwide regions, Region 1, which will see over 80,000 public street lights refurbished across counties Cork, Clare, Limerick, Kerry, and Waterford over the next 30 months as the first stage of the project. Cork County Council is the Lead Local Authority for Region 1.
The contract will see a consortium of some of the most experienced and knowledgeable public lighting contractors in the country uniting to deliver key public lighting infrastructure upgrades in line with the objectives of Project Ireland 2040 to support businesses and communities to build a more sustainable future.
Enerveo Ireland, formerly known as SSE Airtricity Utility Solutions until it rebranded in November 2021 as part of its sale to private equity firm Aurelius, will lead on the project and join forces with Co. Mayo-based lighting specialists Electric Skyline Ltd who have a presence across the 32 counties as well as Al Read Electrical, who have over 40 years of experience in delivering public lighting solutions across Ireland.
Noel Cummins, Director and Operations Manager at Enerveo Ireland, said: “On behalf of the Le Chéile consortium, we are thrilled to be leading the first phase of the Public Lighting Energy Efficiency Project alongside Cork County Council.
This is a huge opportunity for Enerveo Ireland as well as Electric Skyline Ltd and Al Read Electrical, and we look forward to working together as the Le Chéile joint venture over the coming years. Between us, we have numerous years of public lighting experience as well as a long history of providing energy-saving solutions to Local Authorities across Ireland. This will be an enormous benefit to the project and will enable all of the Local Authorities involved in the upcoming first phase to both to achieve and hopefully surpass their energy efficiency targets.
We look forward to commencing the project over the coming months and actioning significant environmental change for the South West Region.”
